Rabbit/Guinea Grooming

Our grooming caters for Rabbits and Guinea Pigs only - Strictly by appointments.
Updated 7 March 2018.

Rabbit/ Guinea Pig Grooming Services available:
    • Nail Clipping (Recommended bi-monthly as their nails grow out by then)
Long nails make it difficult for your pet to walk around and the nails pressing into the flesh as the walk is painful for them. Your pet’s nails may break when they kick or stuck somewhere. This causes bleeding and loss of a nail, which will take a long time to grow.
    • Glands Cleaning
      Scent Glands in Rabbits
Many people neglect this part of the rabbit, or sometimes even forget that rabbits have scent glands. It is important to clean this part as this is where foul odor from the lower part of your rabbit’s body comes from (other than infection or diarrhea). This area is where rabbits discharge their hormones and can get clogged up. If you’re wondering why rabbits, like dogs tend to sniff out others’ butts first, it’s the scent glands attracting them!

      *Grease Glands in Guinea Pigs
Grease glands are what cause clumpy stains of hair at the back of your pig if not cleaned, (just above where the invisible tail should be).
      *Only available for water baths
    • Ear Cleaning
Wax/crust may build up along the sides of your pets’ ears, much like humans do too. Sometimes they would clean them out on their own, but it would be nice if you would help do the job for him! But remember, do not try to poke cotton buds or anything sharp deep into its ears, it will cause extreme pain or hurt its ears if you’re not careful. Consult a vet if you notice abnormality or if your pets require in-depth cleaning. Mites do excrete in pets’ ears forming buildup of brown crust.
    • Brush Down of Fur Coat (Stripping of Fur - when needed) -
It is important to brush down your pet’s fur coat to prevent ingestion of the hair which may cause hairballs (much like cats) and over time and render your pet more prone to G.I. stasis (Google this out for more info). Grooming once a week would help remove dead hairs, more often for long haired breeds like angoras, lionheads, jerseys etc.
    • ^Detangling of Matted Fur
Some owners rush to purchase a furry bunny due to its cuteness, not knowing the high maintenance it requires. Breeds like angoras can get matted fur as quickly as a week. Matted furs are a favourite place for bacteria growth, especially for the anal region and can cause inflammation on your animals’ skin. Please be sure to check your pets’ coat regularly and brush them, if not, a groomer will do the job for you (:
    • Trimming of Fur
    • Dry Bath
Using only powder bath, no water involved. Some rabbits do not like the water and get very stressed going through this, so a dry bath may be more suitable as  a default choice. Dry bath does not remove fur stains, but it does remove some debris. The most important reason why a rabbit should undergo water bath is to ease the sting of urine burns if your pet messes itself. Powder bath is usually enough to keep your pets clean.
    • Water Bath
Water bath with shampoo for rabbits and conditioner. Cleans out the rabbits’ fur coat, removes stains and gives the bunny a softer coat and fresher feeling! Important to soothe an itchy butt and to wash away excessive urine stains that may cause infection/inflammation due to messy pets or irregular cleaning of cages.
    • Blow Dry and Brushing after Bath
We’ll blow dry your pets and brush out its coat nicely after the bath to keep your pets smelling fresh and looking great!
    • Checking of Pet’s body (For mites/ticks/fleas, skin allergies, malocclusion, health condition etc.)

^Detangling will incur extra charges from SGD 5 onwards. Depending on the situation
Detangling Charge-o-meter per session (a rough guide on our charges, prices may be anything in-between, really tough and tricky matts really require loads of time to remove. I have spent an entire afternoon removing matts) Scruffiez doesnt believe in leaving bald patches (shaving matts for the sake of convenience) on rabbits unless necessary to let the skin breathe (this is in instances where mats have clung to the skin and the area is red and sore). Otherwise, we will try our best to remove and leave as much hair intact, no matter how bad the situation. Rabbits have very sensitive skin and leaving shaved patches may not be such a good idea as they can get skin injuries.

$0 No mats to little mats that can be removed by regular brushing
      |
$5 : Some patches of mats that require some time to remove or tough mats on one area
      |
$10 : Slightly more areas of mats (chest, elbows, hinds, anal area)
      |
$25 and more: Bad matted fur down to the skin at many regions
